Liebherr L 586 Wheel Loader Gets Reader’s Choice Award

The flagship model of the Liebherr wheel loaders, the L 586 2plus2, has been voted wheel loader of the year 2008 in Austria.

More than 1,000 valid votes were received in response to the poll for the most popular wheel loader with more than 3 m³ of bucket capacity initiated by the specialist trade magazine BAUBLATT.ÖSTERREICH. The L 586 2plus2 made first place by a large margin.

The L 586 2plus2 presented by Liebherr at the Bauma 2007 trade fair offers a tipping load of 20,430 kg, provides over 250 kW/340 hp engine power and at an operating weight of 31 tonnes comes equipped with a standard 5.5 m³ bucket. Its performance data and dimensions make the new L 586 2plus2 the world’s largest hydrostatically driven wheel loader.

The main features of the wheel loader L 580 2plus2, the flagship of the range, are cost-effectiveness and environmental-friendliness. In practice, this wheel loader consumes up to 25 % less fuel than comparable machines from other manufacturers under the same operating conditions. This success is the result mainly of the “2plus2″ drive technology, a further optimisation of the hydrostatic travel drive. The new drive technology is based on one gear with two different sized hydraulic motors directly mounted, each supplying a separate coupling. As at least one of the hydraulic motors is alternatively active when accelerating or decelerating, the wheel loader smoothly adapts itself to the required travel speed and drawbar pull independently to every operational situation.
