Deere Launches Two New Excavators 120D and 135D

MOLINE, Illinois (Oct. 2, 2008) — John Deere is offering two new hydraulic excavators in the 12- to 13.5-metric-ton range, the 120D and 135D – mid-sized machines with big performance.

The 120D is a  “dig-and-run” unit for jobs such as excavating basements or placing pipe and transports easily between jobs. The 135D is a reduced-tail-swing machine capable of maximum production in confined areas and work within a single lane of traffic. A short counterweight allows it to dig nearer to buildings and obstructions.

New 24M Caterpillar Motor Grader

The Caterpillar® 24M motor grader is designed to meet the specialized requirements of large mining operations, particularly those maintaining haul roads for trucks with capacities of 190 tons (172 metric tons) or more. The largest model in the M-Series, the 24M has an operating weight of 137,692 pounds (62 456 kg) and uses a blade 24 feet (7315 mm) wide. The 24M’s 18.1-liter Cat® C18 ACERT engine develops 533 net horsepower (397 kW) and generates 1,762 pounds-feet (2389 N-m) maximum torque.

When Caterpillar® offered its new D10 for sale in 1978, it was the largest production dozer in the world. But its sheer size wasn’t the biggest story. The preview showing in 1977 of the D10’s revolutionary high-sprocket drive system had generated excitement—and a little controversy—among heavy equipment customers. But its performance met their highest expectations and won them over.
